The LA metallers are back with a vengeance.
With great art comes great music and ABYSMAL DAWN's ongoing relationship with Pär Olofsson has resulted in quality visual consistency for the band's outings over the years. Olofsson's work finds a home yet again in the follow up to 2014's Obsolescence, the upcoming Phylogenesis, out April 17th via Season of Mist. LA's death metal quartet offers the lead single Hedonistic alongside the album announcement as preparation for the extremity to follow.
Those interested in the band's maniacal riffs would be pleased to know that ABYSMAL DAWN will be touring the states with VADER and HIDEOUS DIVINITY, completing a trio of death defying riffage. Dates for that run can be found in the tour poster below. ABYSMAL DAWN will also be celebrating the album's arrival by hosting an exclusive (and free) listening party alongside MMA Fighter/Pro Wrestler Josh Barnett on Thursday, April 16 at 10:00 P.M. at the Cha Cha Lounge in Los Angeles.
ABYSMAL DAWN comment of the new album:
"So here we are, album number five, six years after the release of our last album! It took a long time to get here but I can say without a doubt, this one is worth the wait. We pushed the limits of all the musicians in this band and everyone is extremely proud. We finally get to release the first single today and can't wait for you all to hear the whole thing.
The album title Phylogenesis (fīlōˈjenəsəs) basically refers to an evolution of a species in biology. It could be applied to how we've evolved for the better as a band, but also how humanity has evolved for the worse. Lyrically the album became sort of concept album some what unintentionally. It deals a lot with things we encounter in our modern society and the maddening effect it has on the individual. 'Hedonistic,' in particular, is somewhat inspired by Maslow's Hierachy of Needs and that true happiness lies in purpose, not material pursuits."
