Caramurú Baumgartner captures the maestro's latest wealth of sound.
Flying Lotus & Thundercat's Brainfeeder record label is as eclectic as they come and their own Brandon Coleman stands tall as a treasure trove of passionate songwriting, historical sonic influence, and utmost joy. The multi-faceted musician now announces his new album, Interstellar Black Space, to be released via Brainfeeder on May 20th, complete with a vibrant cover illustration by way of Caramurú Baumgartner that reflects the lively instrumentation embodied within it. The album, which features notable contributions from jazz powerhouse Kamasi Washington and Ryan Porter, is prefaced by infectious lead single Blast Off. This is funk of the upper echelon.
Inspired by David Bowie’s Space Oddity and George Duke’s rich musical catalog, Brandon Coleman comments:
“This record is a reflection of how I felt about time, space, and celestial energy. I love space movies like Interstellar and The Martian – and I thought to myself, if I was traveling through space what would I want to hear? I wanted to write something that I would want to hear whilst traveling from planet to planet searching for a rare precious metal that we need to bring back to Earth."
