As one of metal's most trailblazing acts of today, Cult of Luna have yet to settle. They reached a high mark with their 2019 masterclass, A Dawn To Fear, but didn't stop there and proceeded to found their own label, Red Creek, which properly released this year's The Raging River EP as a taste of what awaits in the new year. The Swedish ensemble now have us looking towards a prosperous 2022 with their forthcoming full-length, A Long Road North, releasing on February 11th via Metal Blade Records. Though the record was unveiled earlier this year, it lacked an audio sample and was complemented only by a worthwhile European Tour announcement that is joined by the talented likes of Alcest, Svalbard, Caspian, and Holy Fawn. That changes today with Cold Burn, a roaring 10-minute soundscape of vibrant melodic textures and pure vigor. Frontman Johannes Persson delivers a commanding vocal performance that is well backed by the wall of sound at the foundation. The video for Cold Burn introduces a gaming experience created by Linus Johansson of North Kingdom Greenhouse that pairs the band's atmospheric qualities with real-time technology and interactive storytelling.
Persson comments on the record:
"It's a big and cinematic sounding album. I think one of the reasons why we have been able to be so productive the last couple of years is that we have been consistently writing from the heart. We have let our instincts guide us, and I think it's getting clearer where we are heading. The long road north is a long road home. A direction dictated by a call that penetrates rock and echoes through the forest. It flows over every lake, accelerated by the wind. When it reaches you, you know it’s time. Time to move forward. You don’t know where it will lead but you put the trust in it. With eyes raised towards the midnight sun it pulls you closer. The road is long and the end is uncertain.”
