Six years from their debut outing and LYKHAEON return to take the strength of Tanz Der Entleibten (2015) to new heights with Opprobrium. Arriving on July 21 via Repose Records and Helvetic Underground Committee, Opprobrium comes equipped with another stunning cover illustration by Elijah Tamu, who offers much to dissect as the band's sonic barrage washes you over. Lead single Descent Into Ruinous Splendor offers listeners a glimpse at LYKHAEON's expansive composition, one that stands tall among its genre counterparts. Opprobrium may be black metal at heart but it strays far from the conventional tropes of the genre with a meticulous approach to songcraft that expands in spurts into death metal while delivering grandiosity on the vocal and atmospheric ends. It may not be linear or accessible at first, but it's sure rewarding to those willing to watch the layers unfold.
