Cannibal Corpse, Voivod, Candlemass, and more through the lens of Mark Valentino.
All Photographs by Mark Valentino at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, June 10 & 11, 2022:
Festival season is well underway and Decibel Magazine rolled through The Fillmore in Philly for their annual Metal & Beer Fest — a collection of top bands from across the metal spectrum paired with exclusive beer tastings and collaborations with breweries across the United States. In short, it was a hell of a celebration and the thousands present took home a memory they'll never forget.
We took a trek down from New York to Philly to document the insanity of it all and the below photographs are but a glimpse of the roaring atmosphere that was felt and observed throughout two packed nights of eclectic performances. The facial gestures, flying sweat, floating smoke, and swaying hair are representative of the electrifying showmanship delivered by every band on the bill. Whether it be seasoned performers or trailblazing newcomers, every band that graced that Fillmore stage left it all on the line one track at a time. For bands playing through seminal records in full, this kind of energy is expected. Count on Decibel to bring forth something special, each and every time.
Some of the notable performances include Candlemass playing through the legendary Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (1986) in its entirety, Wolves in the Throne Room playing Two Hunters (2007) in its entirety, Nuclear Assault's (1986) Game Over in its entirety, The Red Chord's Clients (2005) in its entirety, and of course, a turbulent showing by way of the head swinging Cannibal Corpse, who again define what it is to be at a death metal show. No matter what your metal or beer preference is, the festival pleases and welcomed a wealth of brewers who brought exquisite drinks to choose from. Among those were 3 Floyds Brewing, Adroit Theory Brewing Company, Animated Brewing Co., Bolero Snort Brewery, Soundgrowler Brewing Co., and Mocama Beer Company to name a few. Multi-sensory experiences are what Metal & Beer Fest is all about and the 2022 Philly edition of the festival excelled on that end. Scroll through and enjoy the sights.
