The Warfield in San Francisco on October 13, 2023:
The latest from Cannibal Corpse, Chaos Horrific, is out now via Metal Blade Records and in heavy circulation across the world with it acting as the focal point for the band's recently concluded co-headlining tour with Mayhem. As if death metal's elite and black metal's most notorious weren't enough, underground favorites Blood Incantation and Luc Lemay's Gorguts rounded out the bill, comprising what one can argue as a strong contender for metal touring bill of the year. It was a legacy occasion and their San Francisco tour stop at The Warfield was a barn burner from beginning to end.
With George Corpsegrinder at the helm, Cannibal Corpse spiraled into madness with the crushing Scourge of Iron ripping right into the packed venue. Pits opened along with the hits and crowds pushed forward as the dueling guitars of Erik Rutan and Rob Barrett set us all ablaze with turbulent riffage and blood curling solos.
The maniacal Blood Blind drew a storm while slow burning numbers such as Evisceration Plague grounded The Warfield, sparking united headbanging in conjunction with Corpsegrinder's hair whirlwind. Beyond it being a celebration of the band's contemporary greatness, it was a showcase of the band's stupefying prowess. Whether it be Paul Mazurkiewicz or the always menacing Alex Webster, each musician was at their prime, breathing new life into past greats and modern staples. There's truly none like Cannibal Corpse. No matter how many albums they release and how many tours they embark on, they remain in a league of their own. Experience Chaos Horrific (if you haven't) and dive into the gruesomely good shots from the night's performances below.
