Hell On Earth: Cradle of Filth & Devildriver in Southern California

With a legacy cemented among the genre's best, Cradle of Filth and Devildriver need no extensive effort to prove anything more, and yet, the two continue to deliver big on both the studio full-length side and the live performance. On Saturday, March 11th, the two bands hit The Observatory in Santa Ana, California for a sold-out performance that was thrilling from beginning to end. Frontmen Dani Filth and Dez Fafara led with commanding presence on their respective ends and served the enthusiastic crowd with a heavy dose of power and blood-curling aggression.

The evening's festivities were kicked off by rock newcomers Black Satellite and Canadian prog-metallers Oni, each of which primed the stage for the madness that was to follow. Groove metal excellence was on full display once Devildriver hit the stage as riffs flew in unison to a tight, explosive showing. A cataclysmic drum performance carried them forward to soaring acclaim by the many in attendance. As Fafara's arms were raised, so did the crowd's and a sea of endless horns filled the venue. Cradle of Filth then built on an already electric atmosphere with their signature sinister theatrics. Fans were treated to a career-spanning black metal masterclass that would please everyone across the band's timeline. More than it being a celebration of the co-headliner's celebrated output, the Double Trouble Live performances were statements made by bands who continue to evolve and hone in on their craft in ways to strive for. Few dates remain to witness it all.
