The tech-death giants light up the stage with one of the best showings we've seen this year.

Upon announcement, Meshuggah's Immutable USA Tour was welcomed with widespread acclaim for the Swedish ensemble were set to rip through their celebrated new record, Immutable (Atomic Fire Records), alongside a well rounded bill that included Torche, Converge, and In Flames. Rip they did from the moment lights dimmed and began flashing in sync with the battle anthem that is Broken Cog. The Hollywood Palladium erupted, enthusiasm was through the roof, and the Meshuggah show was now off to an explosive start. Lucky those in attendance, ourselves included.
Time signatures shifted from track to track and section to section with Tomas Haake further cementing his place among the best living drummers of today. Luminokaya's artwork was emblazoned across the backdrop, fitting well alongside the blood red lights and hues that defined the band's stage design for the tour.
Frontman Jens Kidman belted through the rippers that are Rational Gaze, Born In Dissonance, and The Abysmal Eye as guitarists Mårten Hagström and Fredrik Thordendal do right by their accord with a razor sharp performance. Lest we forget about Dick Lövgren, who completes the standout Meshuggah rhythm section. Together, the five-piece stood tall amidst the horde and poured on the heat from beginning to end, concluding with a raging double header: Demiurge & Future Breed Machine.
Though Immutable was the star of the night, the band looked back and delivered a career spanning set that spawned gems from Destroy Erase Improved (1995) to Nothing (2002) and Koloss (2012), leaving fans both new and old breathless with masterful musicianship and energy. With a legacy already cemented among the metal greats, Meshuggah have nothing left to prove and yet, the fire burns brighter with a commanding presence worth more than the price of admission. We've seen many shows this year, but few come as close to matching the towering endeavor that was on display that Sunday evening.
